Bhimakali Temple

Bhimakali Temple is a popular temple at Sarahan (Himachal Pradesh, India) devoted to the Goddess Bhimakali. The temple is positioned approx 180 km from Shimla. Sarahan is popular as the gateway of Kinnaur.



As per the locals, the sign of the goddess is considered to the Daksha-Yajna event when the ear of the Sati fell at this site and became a site of devotion as a Pitha - Sthan. Currently this eternal goddess is sacred at the top storey of the building. Lower that storey the goddess “Parvati”, the daughter of Himalaya is protected as a heavenly consort of Lord Siva.

The temple has three more temples devoted to Lord Raghunathji, Narsinghji and Patal Bhairva Ji.


Sarahan was the assets of monarch of earlier Bushahr State. Bushahr family former used to manage the state from Kamroo. The assets of state afterward was transfered to Sonitpur. Afterward Raja Ram Singh established Rampur as the capital. It is supposed that the nation of Kinnaur was the Kailash written in Puranas, the house of Shiva. With its assets at Sonitpur this earlier royal state was spread up to the whole region of Kinnaur. Now a day, Sonitpur is called as Sarahan. Banasura, the passionate follower of Lord Siva, eldest sons of great fiend King Bali and the great grandson of Vishnu votary Prahlad, at the time of the Puranic age was the monarch of this royal state.
